Life's Inspirational Quotes..

"Here forms, here colours, here the character of every part of the universe are concentrated to a point; and that point is so marvellous a thing ... Oh! marvellous, O stupendous Necessity— by thy laws thou dost compel every effect to be the direct result of its cause, by the shortest path. These are miracles..." -- Leonardo da Vinci

"In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned menĂ¢€™s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost." -- Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator

"We ourselves shall be loved for a while and forgotten. But the love will have been enough; all those impulses of love return to the love that made them. Even memory is not necessary for love. There is a land of the living and a land of the dead and the bridge is love, the only survival, the only meaning." -- Thornton Wilder

"Music can be all things to all persons. It is like a great dynamic sun in the center of a solar system which sends out its rays and inspiration in every direction.... Music makes us feel that the heavens open and a divine voice calls. Something in our souls responds and understands." -- Leopold Stokowski

"Patience is a necessary ingredient of genius." -- Benjamin Disraeli

"Dear brothers and sisters, after the great Pope, John Paul II, the cardinals have elected me, a simple and humble worker in the Lord's vineyard. The fact that the Lord can work and act even with insufficient means consoles me, and above all I entrust myself to your prayers." -- Pope Benedict XVI

"When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe." -- John Muir

"We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep." -- "Prospero" in The Tempest by William Shakespeare

Top 4 WebMailS

After years of succumbing myself to that mere 2MBs of email spaces given by hotmail and 4MBs by yahoo mail, finally my dream come true... no need to continuously organize my emails and delete those emails which i wanted to keep for future references. Very funny man... looking at the way internet has evolved and how much things has changed around here...the best part of it all is that now we have gmail which offer 2125MBs of email spaces and it's said to be increasing each day but somehow today when i checked on the page counter, it's already stopped. Maybe it's still counting on the server side. Anway, i'm proud of google to give us such an unlimited(although 2125MBs or 4000MBs aren't that much but if compared in relative to previous 2MBs and 4MBs, it's alot!) email spaces as compared to hotmail and yahoo mail. Not surprisingly both of them already increased their free email spaces from 2 & 4 MBs to 250MBs but that still 8.5 times lesser than a gmail a/c. hahahaha... here comes the best part of it all, today when i was surfing i came across this webmail which offers 4000MBs of free spaces. Although i'm not sure whether there's any catch behind this or not, same goes to gmail but definitely it's something worth registering for. As a consumer, we got nothing much too lose(as long as you keep your registration details short and brief) shouldn't posed much of a problem except some spam emails in the future in they decided to "give out" our email address to the third parties. Worst come to worst, just dumped that email address and find a better one although one need to go through some hassle to do so by diverting and informing their friends and business associates about this. Overall, still worth the touble! ehehehehehe... below i come up with my own lists of the most email spaces offered online to the least...
(1) XasaMail - 4000MBs
(2) Gmail - 2125MBs
(3) Hotmail - 250MBs
(4) YahooMail - 250MBs

Japan apologises for WWII aggresion in Asia

I have been following this news since 2-3weeks ago when: "Tokyo approved a new history textbook that critics say plays down Japan's wartime atrocities, including mass sex slavery and germ warfare" This hav caused many unsatisfaction among the chinese community especially china where there were many protests held against the japanese act. Even we are thousand miles away, chinese community(especially the Hua Zong - Federation of Malaysia Chinese Associations), at msia too play a part by boycotting japanese product to show our dissapproval of the act. From the moment i read abt the news, i've decided to boycott all japanese product including my favourite sushi. sighed!!!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Yes'day was EARTH DAY 2005.

"Earth Day is a day of equilibrium when differences are forgotten and nature's renewal is celebrated by all."

All of use should pay more attention and care to our mother's nature and all their livings. If it's not for mother nature, we wouldn't have a such wonderful place to live in and enjoy the peacefulness of mother's nature. It's a message to "destroyer" out there to stop what they are doing - hurting mother's nature greatest invention!!!

It's those kind of uneasiness which caused by food poisoning. Sighed!!! The next thing i know was spending the rest of the day in the toilet trying to get rid of the bacteria or virus that caused my stomache pain. Been in and out of the toilet for 7 times the whole day. Can u believe it ar? haih... this go on till nite time even after i rested the whole afternoon on my bed still doesn't help much coz the dirt is still not full flushed our my stomach... only managed to get myself together at ard 8+ where i'm already totally out... just seat myself on the chair and lazyin for the rest of the nite. Wasn't the kind of the day i'll expect but who knows wat's gg to happen next rite? therefore, we must always try our best to spend each day meaningfully and wisely else we might not have the chance... *pondering*

New POPE!

(extract from the news)
"SIMPLE, HUMBLE WORKER: Ratzinger, the new Pope Benedict XVI, a longtime guardian of doctrinal orthodoxy, appearing on the balcony of Saint Peter's Basilica Tuesday to a huge ovation from some 100,000 people filling the square"

Macromedia bought over by Adobe... Macro-Adobe!!!

Another M&A by the software giants in US. "Adobe today announced that it would acquire Macromedia for about $US3.4 billion in shares." a whopping 3.4 billion...!!! so wat we have after the M&A -> "MACRO"ADOBE! hahahaha... i hope this M&A will bring more hope to us as a consumer from being monopolised by "MICRO"SOFT. At least with the word "MACRO" sounds more gigantum than "MICRO"...

A world without borders...

Borders, one of the largest book retail store in US is in town with their largest chain in world. Located @ 2nd 3rd Floor, Berjaya Times Square. The database of book collection there must be huge looking at the amount of floor space the store occupied and the number of contennas off-loaded with books in english, malay and chinese. Definitely need to pay a visit sometimes this week or the next. Can't wait to get my feet into the "world without borders, where knowledge is right at your finger tips"... whoa...

Care for a gamble???

Finally, SG take on the challenges to build its own casino. Not 1 but TWO!!! One @ Sentosa Island located together with the resort and another @ Marina Bay. Wow! Tt's really sthg man... After months of speculations and surveys from the public and govt themselves, finally the all awaiting decision is out! As for me, i don't think building a casino a bad idea at all since most singaporeans either travel themselves to genting or macau for gambling or spend it on horses and 4Ds. Therefore, rather than giving the revenue to other country, why not keep for themselves rite? Fair enough but again it comes to the question that will these casino caused further collapsed of the so-called strict society singaporeans have been abiding to all these years? a BIG question mark? let see how it goes... But definitely in short term, it will only be beneficial to the country in terms of providing further growth through foreign funds for casino investment and also to boost up the construction industry which is going to die if without project soon. Long term, no one can predict...

Interesting POEM circulating on the web about us!!! :p

Malaysian Mentality

You are a 3rd World Country
(A gentle reminder to all Malaysians)

Progress is not solely about prosperity
Nor buildings that look pretty
You may have the KLCC
But some places like Penang are still dirty
So you are still a 3rd world country because of your mentality

You try to beat the queue to get a taxi
And don't even bother about road courtesy
Not to mention parking indiscriminately
Without signalling you overtake randomly
And abusing lanes for emergency
Rising deaths on the roads is how u celebrate festivity

You created the MSC
To emulate Silicon Valley
You talk about high technology
To preach about the PC
But yet broadband is denied to many

You also can't supply stable electricity
Your roads have potholes and are bumpy
And tyres fall off your LRT
So this is Malaysian quality

Let's create the best schools, roads and toilets in the country
Are what Malaysia Boleh should strive to be
But instead Malaysia Boleh is so funny

You break records just to make yourself feel happy
Decades passed but this mentality I still see
Will this carry on till the next century?
Or will this change when we turn 80?

You are helpless and just let it be
Let it be
Will tomorrow be better for you and me?
15 years from now come 2020
if this goes on you will still be
just another 3rd world country because of your mentality.

Weekend @ SG

Overall, the trip to SG was tiring yet was fun. After months of planning by our hard working e9 committee, finally the day has arrived. Yahoo! e9 7th Anniversary! Although, we from msia couldn't find a proper custome coz there aren't any custome shop to be found around the kl city. Therefore, we had no choice but to settle ourselves for some accessories which we bought @ Sg Wang the day before we left for sg. Except msia staff, the sg staff were all dressed in full force pirate customes. Wow!!! It's amazing to see so many of them in full spirits after one whole day of tiring work. Exactly @ 5:30pm sharp we left our office and headed to clifford pier where we supposed to board our fantasy yacht. Yeah tt's rite, dinner on board! ehehehehe... sounds cool... indeed! But some of us had seasick due to the shackiness of the yacht. Once on board, all of us started to change to our new pirate look. As for us(msia staff), all we needed was to fix on our headscarf and earings. We're supposed to be the captain so called "sacrifices"... doesn't sounds interesting but who cares? for the sake of the fun nia! From then on, everything was fantastic and full of fantasy. Games, foods and drinks... the event ended @ 10:30pm. But i stayed on the weekend and do some catch-up with WC on Saturday since i'm already there and haven't seen him since CNY. Luckily, there is room for me to stay at his place else i might need to sleep on the street! ehehehe... kidding! we managed to catch a "shara"(was quite good, 7/10!), after movie we had our dinner @ some mamak restaurant along "errrr...couldn't remember the road name???" yeah, i was suddenly craving for "roti prata"(sg version of roti canai), tt's why we went for mamak. The meal was good not to mention the service was as good. Thanks WC for the treat! Came back to msia on late sunday afternoon and rested for the rest of the day. Was just too tired... ehehehehe...

Company's Anniversary Dinner @ SG

While waiting for my files to be copied to my laptop, thought it'll be great if i just drop by my blog and do some updates. Yeah it's already vvv early in the morning or i should say it's this kind of timing where everyone is already fast asleep but i'm still around wandering around. Huh! Can't help it caused there are unfinished work to be completed by tomorrow. Since tomorrow i'll be heading down to SG with the rest of my colleague to attend our company annual dinner, most of my day will be spent on the bus. Therefore, left with not much choice but to do a backup copy one my laptop and most likely i have to carry this 3KGs box together with me tomorrow to SG. Surprisingly, the bus we are taking tomorrow do provide each passenger with a power outlet where we can either plug any of our electrical items for us to use during the bus journey or for those for are "over-productive" may even thought of plugging in their laptops and do some work. Yeah, we human always think of ways to save time or i should say make our time more efficient. Greedy rite? Muahahahaha... Too bad, i might just be one of them tomorrow. I guess it's really doesn't make sense if i bring my laptop along and don't use it at all during the bus journey. Doesn't justified the hours i spend now, sacrificing my sleep just to do some backup copies and comprehending the stuff which i'm supposed to do by tomorrow. a big "SIGH"!!! but hopefully, 2nite dinner will be a fantastic one coz this is my first custome type party! looking forward it... okok, time to sleep else i'll be a zombie tomorrow instead of a pirate(the theme for this year annual dinner). hahahahaha... have a nice weekend! will b back on sundaY... ;-)

<Weekly Quotes>

"Out of the struggle at the center has come an immense, painful
longing for a broader, more flexible, fuller, more coherent, more
comprehensive account of what we human beings are, who we are, and
what this life is for. At the center humankind struggles with
collective powers for its freedom, the individual struggles with
dehumanization for the possession of his soul." -- Saul Bellow

"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no
matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and
your own common sense." -- Gautama Buddha

"Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts." -- Richard
Feynman

"The love of liberty is the love of others; the love of power is the
love of ourselves." -- William Hazlitt

"Our institutions were not devised to bring about uniformity of
opinion; if they had we might well abandon hope. It is important to
remember, as has well been said, 'the essential characteristic of true
liberty is that under its shelter many different types of life and
character and opinion and belief can develop unmolested and
unobstructed'." -- Charles Evans Hughes

"A living body is not merely an integration of limbs and flesh but it
is the abode of the soul which potentially has perfect perception,
perfect knowledge, perfect power, and perfect bliss." -- Mahavira

"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within
limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add
"within the limits of the law" because law is often but the tyrant's
will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." --
Thomas Jefferson

"The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible
worlds; and the pessimist fears this is true." -- James Branch Cabell

So much so little...

Since early this year till now, i was always ended up letting a lot of my goals and tasks assigned for each day slipped by. I have been giving lotsa of careful thoughts and this and here it wat i comes up with:
1) As we grow older, so do our body and thinking therefore we tend to do things on a slower pace and most of the time couldn't finished what we usually plan for the day.
2) We always thought that as long as we stay strong with great determination and perseverance, we will always be able to overcome any phsycial or mental challenges to achieve our goals or tasks but tt's not true. Somehow rather our physcial and mental strenght are limited till a certain extent.
3) Words always comes first without action. Plenty of talking but nothing is being done about it. braggin too much kills!!!
4) Lack of stamina due to lack of exercise and unhealthy eating habits.
5) Lack of concentration due to too much things in the mind and not sure which one is to be prioritized and EOD, trying to get everything done but ended up with nothing!
6) Take things too easily... Sometimes things may get out of hand but we must always stay calm and cool to work around it else it'll only affects others. People that we love and care for. Also over-emphasizing on a solution could mean ignorance to other more important stuff...
7) Always perceived and made lousy assumptions which lead to self-destruction...
8) Anymore... and i'm going to kill myself...
9) i guess there will always be more and more...
10) and the lists goes on...
yeah, i'm just crapping... trying to find ways to motivate myself and get my butt of that stupid chair and make things happen!!! arggghhhhhh....

20cents pls... if you wan to use masjid jamek lrt stn toilet!

sigh... was kind of turn off by the management team at masjid jamek putra lrt stn. I couldn't believe it when they started setting up a booth outside the toilet and start charging ppl 20cents each per entry. Previously, all the commuters of putra lrt get to enjoy the free toilet service as long as u hold a valid pass. Although, this could be a small issue to some of you but for me i think this shouldn't be an issue at all. Why they need to start charging ppl for money? Haven't they profited enough from the expensive fares we are putting into their pockets each day??? Tak cukup ke? Finding ways to earn more so that we as the consumer will have to either hold our way through to kl sentral if we need a break or find yourself peeing in your pants to avoid putting that extra 20cents to their pockets. Very very disappointing... Worst yet to come, cause recently i saw they already setup some table and chairs at kl sentral putra lrt stn. guess the nightmare is far from over... haih... first of all, i found it damn bloody hilarious when the idea of charging the public money for each entry we made to the public toilet. hahahaha... we pay taxes each yr and now we have to pay toilet tax as well... why cant we follow other countries and give free admission to toilet and at the same time keeping the toilet clean??? i think their excuse of charging us that mere 20cents so that they can hire someone to take care of the toilet and make sure they r always clean r pure bullshit!!! if other countries can do it why not here? where is the spirit of "malaysia boleh"!?!?!?

Learn to blog in a safe way!

It has been years since blogging first started introduce to net users. People like me with little or no prior knowlegde of what can be or cannot be blog. Although, i've found blogging is a very useful way for the minority like us to voice out our thoughts and concerns regarding our society today. But care need to be taken as recently there have been a lot cases where sensitive content blogged by bloggers is being watched by the watchdog and some even got themselves into trouble. For example, our famous malaysian blogger Mack Zulkifli where given a visit at home by some policeman because he's such an "influential" blogger here. So you could be next if you don't adhered to the rules and standard properly! :p

Don't you feel like doing this to at least one person a day??

Penguins

after 3 yrs of waiting.. Woods finally Re-Mastered its golfing skills once again!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I always like the way Tiger Woods play his golf. He maybe extreme at times but he's just too damn good in what he does. Everytime i sees him playing, i can feel the kind of determination and preseverance inside him that are so heat up that makes anything is possible. Yeah, it makes me believe in myself that if someone like Tiger Woods can make the impossible become possible, why not me??? Believe in ourselves and everything is possible...

Current trend or just for the sake of better satisfaction?

Looking at this article, it does struck a chord on myself which I could be one of the victim of the current trend. But *fingers crossed* cause my case was execeptional. I needed to move to further developed myself and better future prospects and opportunities. I guess this will be the usual reason most graduates will say when they are faced with the same questions. Hmmm... I guess the survey proven quite right that the problem not only lies with our graduates but the employer too. If they do their part well enough and all the employee welfare are well taken care of, all these will not even surfaced or become a thought at all. Yup, I think they employer should take the blame since they always thought that we as an employee are always dispensable. But actually, to train a new employee to take over our job will costs even more to them if they actually sit down and do the maths! What we as a graduate want is a secured future and lots of room for growth and improvement. They need to be aware of this! This isn't much to ask for if a job/tasks assigned to us are well executed. It's like a small token for us to future upgrade ourselves and work harder for the organization. After so much been said on this issue, but there seems to be not even an action is taken... sad isn't it? sigh...

the World say goodbye to “Giovanni Paolo Santo'' ....

or "St John Paul"... he was cremated at a mass burial in a chapel near the tomb traditionally believed to be of the apostle Peter, the first pope. An excerpt from the article:

"Today, we bury his remains in the earth as a seed of immortality -- our hearts are full of sadness, yet at the same time of joyful hope and profound gratitude," Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger said in the homily during the Mass.

tm net outage...

No wonder i feel a sudden drop in my connection speed and sometimes lagging. I thought it was just me and my connection but didn't know it's a global issue. Till recently, when i came across jeff ooi's blog that i've known. OMG! Not again... I really quite tired and very pissed with the way things are done at tmnet. Just few weeks back, their customer service hotline was down and now line outage. Just by reading through jeff's blog, i think it's quite a serious thing and mostly we won't be getting a smooth connection till sometime end of next week or end of month. I hope the people in-charge would have sleepless nites trying their best to resolve it else people like us will start to get on their back... argggghhhhh.... things just get more and more horrible these days!!! TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE IDEA OF HAVING MORE PLAYERS IN OUR BROADBAND INDUSTRY.. u got my total support! *teach those big guys out there a lesson they'll only live to regret!*

verY bad sore-throat!

Was once again down with a bad and ugly sore-throat. Can feel the pain around my tonsil area all the way down my throat. I've been a regular victim of sore-throat since i was very young. Not too sure why and what causes it but at least i'll be down with sore-throat once every month. This time round could be contributed to the abrupt changes of weather and heaps of coffee intake to help myself stay awake and concentrated during my work. Sad to say i'm having an imperfect body which succumbs easily to sore throat not to mention that i perspire heavily all the time. Some say this may due to my heavy body metabolisme but i think it's something else. My sweat may account to 3-4 times what a normal person usually sweat and most of the time when people don't even drop a sweat but i was sweating and perspiring away. Sigh... Hmmm... I guess none of us are perfect but at least i hope my imperfection was not due to make me perspire and sweat all the way...i wish it's something less dramatic or caused less attention to me and my surroundings. sweat... yew! makes me look dirty and sticky... couldn't do much but trying my best to live with it... so if any of you need free vitamin D, do come over and get it from me? but you'll need to drink it fresh from the source! muahahahahaha... chill out 'n' have a wonderful weekend! "Life's Short, So Play Hard!"

and the saga continues... from the police side...

It's rather ridiculous and wasting time if even the police came in with their part of the story and denying the public side of story. I'm not too sure why there wasn't a report being made either by the 46 patrons or the owner itself, but i'm quite sure why they were reluctant to do so. Firstly, all the cops raided that shop with such a behaviour and also they event hand-cuffed two of the patrons which refused to show them their identity card unless the officer show them theirs. I don't see any wrong in doing so, why they need to be treated in such a violent way? I thought they(the policeman) need to always uphold their "mesra selalu" attitude to gain public confidence??? Rather disappointing right? That's why i feel that none even dare to made any further movement after seeing and hearing what had happened. sigh!!!

Rude Awakening @ cybercafe!

After reading this article, i feel even more unsafe with police around. Yeah, the author of the blog is right. It'll be better to hire thugs or gangster to look after our safety rather than those filthy policeman. At least, those gangster will treat us with respect and dignity. Really disappointed with how things are run around the police dept. Firsty, I read about how they raid people on the park saying that they are trying to catch those who "khalwat" but somehow rather they are just misusing their power for their own and now this. Raiding the cybercafe and treating the public as though they are some criminals. Don't mind I say, even criminals too deserved some respect. If they(the police) behaved in such an ill-mannered, then it makes no difference as compared to the criminals. If you know what i mean! I'm not sure whether pak lah's advice is heed or not but one i'm sure of is that since he made the announcement to make the police dept more transparent, there seems to be alot of ugly roots starting to surface from the police side and it's effecting and tarnishing the image of our society. I hope immediate and stringent actions are taken before our whole society collapse. Please, relevant parties either send or publish as many of these articles so that the police dept can start looking back on their action and make the necessary changes else it's going to destroy our whole community!!!

Quotes from people all around the world...

Although he already left us but his greatness will live on...

Pope left us a legacy to follow...

Last weekend was a slow and sad weekend as the world lost another leader. Someone with so much charisma and caring for the world and the people around it. Pope John Paul II passed away peacefully on Sunday Morning 4th April 2005 @ 3:37am. He left behind a great legacy which I think all of us especially the world great leaders should emulate and learn from him.

Are you home country buildings earthquake tolerable?

sad to say that ours not! sigh... which give me a shrivel all the way to my spines... wat if that quake with 9.0 Ritcher Scale(coupled with tsunami that happened on 26/12/2004) or the most recent one that happened @ nia, one of the west islands at indonensia with 8.5 Ritcher Scale hit us? I tink either one is enough to make the whole KL city *flat*... so wat's next? learn fr lesson and re-build the whole city with quake resistance? hmmm... i guess not rite? but wat else can they(our quake eng'r) do apart fr re-bldg them? although, i havent been keep in touch with my civil eng knowlegde nor books but i tink there should be a way to counter all this, best is to prevent it from happening. can we just add some kind of seismic support structure underneath each bldg? esp our most loved and priced towers of all -> Petronas Twin Tower - which represent our msia pride and spirit of "Malaysia Boleh!" so if we can build such a structure, again with the "Malaysia Boleh!", i'm sure we can do sthg abt tis b4 sthg really serious happens... of course, i'm not hoping nor predicting it'll since msia is not sitting directly on the epi center but prevention is better than cure rite? ;-)

alert: price hike for taxi and bus fares!!!

alert!alert!alert! yeah... for those frequent taxi and bus fans... eheheheh.... there will be a hike in the price from 1st may onwards... as for myself, a daily bus commuter feeling abit uneasy with the hikes but hope the increase is justifiable. can't blame them for increasing the price coz i tink they havent increase the price b4 for ages liao rite? or i'm mistaken? nway, as all of us know tt each day our living costs increases, therefore it's only fair there should be some kind of salary incr for those taxi and bus drivers. they too need to "cari makan" rite? unjustifiable? judge for urself then...

p/s: i hope tis is not some kind of april fool prank they r tryin to play on the public rite? ahem...ahem... who knows? but theStar wor? one of our most read national paper leh... don't tink they wan to jeopardise the trust the public put on them... but once again, who noes rite? ehehehehe... u judge for urself? :p

I'm BACK!!!

Yeah, i'm back! After 2.5 mths of MIA, finally i'm back home... feels good to be back. at least i can start to rave and rant abt the C&A and happenings around my life and the ppl ard me. ehehehehe... alwiz ready man! never feels that good to be back... The past 2.5 mths have been a busy and crazy mths. Started work a my new workplace @ earth9 and was settling myself there and getting used to the lifestyle and its environment. When i'm busy, i'm damn busy and when i'm free, sometimes can be very free loh... but as usual, as a productive staff i alwiz make myself busy by being proactive in doing my own little self-research and readings. sometimes, even spent times reading other ppl stuff just to get myself into the work mood. being too free can make a person vvv bored and lazy! yeah, these r the 2 worst things i've ever wanted to happen to myself. hmmm... so how am i performing so far? by the sounds of it, not too bad hor... looking forward to see more of myself here... ehehehehe... am i crazy? *blah!*

Simple living yields simply millions in savings(interesting!)

Many people who lead simple-living lifestyles are millionaires. Their wealth is the result of hard work, perseverance, planning and self-discipline.

Many people already lead simple-living lifestyles and don’t know it. And many of them are millionaires.

Proof can be found in the best-selling book, “The Millionaire Next Door,” by Thomas Stanley and William Danko. You’d never guess that the subject of millionaires could have anything to do with simple living, but it does.

Compulsive savers vs. the rest of us
The millionaires in this book were not born wealthy, nor do most of them have high-level, exotic jobs. What they do have are simple lifestyles! It’s the simple lifestyles, not the big paychecks that turned these people into millionaires. According to the book, their wealth is the result of hard work, perseverance, planning and most of all, self-discipline.

So why aren’t all of us hard-working souls rich?
Answer: We regularly and continually give our money away to other people so they can become wealthy, while we live paycheck to paycheck. We buy the latest cars, biggest houses, full wardrobes, daily espressos, high-tech gizmos and gadgets of all kinds. As a result, we’re on treadmills, never allowing ourselves the time to create the kind of lifestyle we want. On the other hand, the millionaires are described in the book as “compulsive savers and investors.” After surveying 1,115 millionaires around the country, authors Stanley and Danko came up with seven common denominators among those who successfully build wealth:

  1. They live well below their means.
  2. They allocate their time, energy and money efficiently, in ways conducive to building wealth.
  3. They believe that financial independence is more important than displaying high social status.
  4. Their parents did not provide economic outpatient care.
  5. Their adult children are economically self-sufficient.
  6. They are proficient in targeting market opportunities.
  7. They chose the right occupations.

This list represents simple living at its finest. Here’s why. Simple living is about living consciously and with a purpose. This means being in control of your money and your life. When you save your money rather than continue spending, you buy yourself control. Then you have a say in how you’d like to spend your time.

With money saved and invested, you can live for years without earning money, or you can at least afford yourself the luxury of working part-time. This is vastly different from living paycheck to paycheck. These millionaires have created lifestyles and jobs that are meaningful to them because they took a look at the big picture and made choices accordingly.

The millionaire next door
“The flashy millionaires glamorized by the media actually represent only a tiny minority of America’s rich,” Stanley and Danko say in the book. “Most of the truly wealthy in this country don’t live in Beverly Hills or on Park Avenue -- they live next door.”

The authors say that the typical wealthy individual is a businessman who has lived in the same town for all of his adult life, and owns a small factory, a chain of stores or a service company. He lives next door to people with a fraction of his wealth. Their survey indicated that while the paycheck to paycheck crowd drives new cars, most millionaires don’t. They’re not wearing expensive clothes and watches and their houses are relatively modest compared to their financial status.

You don’t need to be a millionaire to lead a simple life, and indeed, no one said that money equals happiness. But you can learn from millionaires how to get off the treadmill and create a satisfying life.

2 days we should not worry about....

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday with all its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains. Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed; We cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow with all its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise, and its poor performance; Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control. Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is yet to be born. This leaves only one day,

Any person can fight the battle of just one day. It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities Yesterday and Tomorrow that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad, it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us, therefore, live but one day at a time.

Quote of the DaY: "You better live your best and act your best and think your best today, for today is the sure preparation for tomorrow and all the other tomorrows that follow. " - Harriet Martineau(English economist & novelist)

Don't Be Lazy!

"Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking."

It's time to leave your job when ...

Here is 10 ways to know when it's the right time to move on from your present job into a new role.
1. Friends/family ban you from mentioning "work" after hearing countless complaints.
2. You do not share your company's values/goals.
3. You've started making a voodoo doll of your boss.
4. Your standards slip. You come to work late, take sickies, make silly mistakes, tell white lies to cover your tracks.
5. You're burntout – insomnia, hair loss, skin rashes, nightmares, feeling blue, stress eating/not eating.
6. You could do your job in your sleep. You're constantly watching the clock and every minute feels like an hour.
7. Once known as easy going, you're now constantly snapping at people.
8. The boss has all the control. You have no input into how you do your job.
9. The phrase: "That's not in my job description" has become your personal mantra.
10. There is nowhere for you to go in the organisation.

When you love someone...

from Gift From The Sea
___________________________________________________
When you love someone, you do not love them all the time, in exactly the same way, from moment to moment. It is an impossibility. It is even a lie to pretend to. And yet this is exactly what most of us demand. We have so little faith in the ebb and flow of life, of love, of relationships. We leap at the flow of the tide and resist in terror its ebb. We are afraid it will never return. We insist on permanency, on duration, on continuity; when the only continuity possible, in life as in love, is in growth, in fluidity - in freedom, in the sense that the dancers are free, barely touching as they pass, but partners in the same pattern.

The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping, even. Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, nor forward to what it might be in dread or anticipation, but living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now. Relationships must be like islands, one must accept them for what they are here and now, within their limits - islands, surrounded and interrupted by the sea, and continually visited and abandoned by the tides.

2005 New Year's Resolution...

Happy New Year Everyone!

Being quite lazy lately although i kept telling myself not to. Guess i'm still like others afterall. Always wanted to impose heavy restrictions and self-disciplined on myself so that i could spend my time and effort more effectively and productively. I always believe by doing so will i only be able to stay ahead the rest or at least be as competitive as them. Apart from being competitive, its also help us to make yourself grow progressively and continuously in seeking our goals and achieving our life missions. Of course, we shouldn't overdo it by being so obsessive in implementing our life principles till we've forgetten who we are, our families and friends, and most importantly our actual streangth and capabilities. Yes, all of us have our own strength and weaknesses. That is what makes our life more challenging in the sense that we need to constantly challenge ourselves to overcome our weaknesses, reviewing them and make them work with us. Once we managed to do that, we are actually a step closer in achieving our life goals and objectives. Then came another new weaknesses along the way that will hinder us from going further but we need not afraid instead apply the same principle and soon it'll be our friend rather than our enemy. That's life my friend, you can't have a life completely full of happiness(a perfect life) if you first don't go through the hardships and obstacles that come along with it. That's what i called "Balanced Lifestyle". Well supposed to write something about my new year's resolution but somehow got distracted and started talking about some life perspectives and principles. Yeah, boring and dry! All of us, always try our best to avoid them. In brief, this year 2005 new year resolution will be: "Thriving towards achieving a greater and much more meaningful lifestyle through constantly challenging my own weaknesses, upgrading myself and reviewing them as i move along to ensure a certain degree of consistency and persistency are met." Sounds too abstract for you then it's time you find one which suits yourself. Lastly, i hope this year will bring more joy and happiness to everyone while enjoying the prosperity of life! Adios...

Insure your career

Take steps now to remain employable with these tips
Recently, I met up with my insurance adviser to have my insurance policies reviewed. During the meeting, I learnt that a working individual should have adequate insurance cover to protect his future earnings in the event of an uncertainty such as premature death, permanent disability or critical illnesses.
I agreed with him and bought another insurance policy to cover my shortfall.
While paying premiums to insure your future earnings, possession or health, it is also imperative to insure your career. There is no premium to be paid for the career insurance but the returns can be high. Here are suggestions on what you can do:

Record your achievements
As time goes by, you may forget your past achievements in previous jobs. It is good to create a folder to store every specific achievement, no matter how small it may seem. An e-folder would be ideal as you can cut and paste your achievements onto your resumé easily.
A prospective employer will look at how a potential employee can add value to his organisation and he is going to be impressed with a detailed record of your previous achievements.

Update your resumé regularly
It is important to update your resumé regularly even though you are presently employed. This serves as a contingency should you lose your job one day.
You will not have to spend time updating your resumé then and can begin sending it out immediately.

Polish your communication skills
Just as jewels need to be polished to retain their shine, you need to polish up your communication skills to enhance your working relationships with colleagues and business associates.
Studies have shown that employees who progress successfully in the organisation are those who are able to communicate effectively with people at all levels. In your communications, always think of how you can be of value or help to the other party.
Remember the saying: People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Enlarge your network
One of my clients told me that her network was very small. When I asked her how many personal contacts she had invited to her wedding dinner and she told me it was nearly 200, I told her that was the size of her network.
Like her, you probably have a sizeable network. All you need to do is to enlarge it and keep in touch with them through acts such as sending them greeting cards or an article you feel will be of interest to them.
No doubt it takes time to network. But the effort could prove invaluable as your network could be your next source of job leads. Most jobs are acquired through word-of-mouth recommendations.

Bullet-proof yourself
Jobs lost may not be available again in today’s competitive job market. Instead of biting the bullet, you can bullet-proof yourself.
Always be prepared to learn new skills as you never know when you will need them. Volunteer to embark on new challenges such as leading a project team or chairing a fund-raising event.
Do not be afraid to showcase your hidden talents. Your hidden talents are your marketable assets. Flaunt them!

Learn as you go
Your self-development and education are never-ending. Keep up with what is happening in your industry and profession. Continue to sharpen your skills and learn new ones.
If you need to attend a course to be more competent in your job, do it! As you gain more knowledge and skills over time, your chances of keeping your job are higher though not guaranteed. You can also transfer your knowledge and skills to a more challenging position.

Get your Plan B ready
One of the best ways to insure your career is to explore other career options. This is your Plan B, which will kick in when you find your present job does not advance you further.
You can draft your contingency plan yourself or with the help of a career coach. The coach will be able to help you know who you are so you can be sure of where you want to go or what you want to be at some defined point in the future.

Be modest
Be likeable, friendly and cooperative. These are vital traits that you should develop to the fullest. People with such traits tend to be hired first and fired last.
Just remember the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

The demise of Common Sense

TODAY we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense.

No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were lost long ago amidst bureaucratic red tape.

But he will be remembered as having cultivated such valued lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, and that life isn’t always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge). His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition!

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Command-ments became contraband, churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled it in her lap and was awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers, My Rights and I’m Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because few realised he was gone.

Settling into a New Role

==================================================
haven't been blogging for sometime. reason due to busy with work and job hunting. now slightly better as i alredi found a new job and also starting to handover all my work in the current company to my predecessor. ehehehe...ok cool! Here are some guidelines which i found it rather useful and important especially for newcomer like myself in the working world... sometimes we could just have overlooked some of the points which mentioned in this article. ehehehe... ok, here you go: (article title is as above)
==================================================
Once you commence at your new employment place, do as much as possible to increase your awareness of the new organization. This will boost your confidence, give you a positive frame of mind and reduce the steepness of the learning curve when you do eventually begin. You may wonder as to how you may build up your information resources. You can build your information source from:
  • The research which you should have undertook before the selection interview.
  • The knowledge gained at the actual interview.
  • The knowledge which your new employer can provide after you have accepted the offer: for example, literature on products and services, visits to familiarize yourself with procedures, technology, etc.
  • The knowledge gained from reading or experience which you or your existing employer can arrange.
  • Reviewing your self-assessment profile. What could you do differently this time around to build a stronger career and avoid some of the weaknesses of your past, e.g. to delegate or meet deadlines more effectively, relate better to colleagues, maximize your potential, etc? You may find it helpful to strengthen your resolve and formulate some strategies here by talking these issues through in advance with a friend, mentor, counselor, etc.
  • Furthermore, before going in on the first day, do consider what “image” the employer feels may be appropriate to your job - appearance, clothes, life-style, and attitudes.

Soon after starting, try to establish:

  • The organizational structure.
  • 'Who's who' - formally and informally.
  • The relationship of your job to others.
  • Communications: up, down and sideways; 'dotted lines', support services available - e.g., personnel department.
  • Preferred communication networks: word of mouth, memos, E-mail, committees, etc.
What the rules and procedures operate within the organization - written or oral - e.g. concerning health and welfare, discrimination, etc.
  • Whether the organization has received any type of quality accreditation.
  • The history of the enterprise.

One more point to note here once you start I that, if you do not have a job description already, ask for one, and then try to define as clearly as you can the boundaries of your job. You are not seeking to establish the minimum acceptable benchmarks, but frontiers within which you can make your best contribution. Do this constructively and as quickly as you can. Within the first month would be ideal.

To further ensure you are on the right track, go further to find out:

  • What the limits of your authority are.
  • What the parameters and main objectives of your job are.
  • What the expectations of your superiors and colleagues are.
  • What kind of feedback you will receive from superiors.
  • The limits of your responsibilities - personnel, products, services etc.
  • The way your job meshes into any quality system in use.
  • What resources you will be available to have.
  • What priorities in the job as well as the proportion of your time that you should be giving to each.
  • What the main problem areas, pitfalls and the 'uniqueness' of the job are.

Try to start by:

  • Listening a great deal to instructions, names and other important information.
  • Being modest, well behaved and courteous.
  • Exercising tact and much diplomacy.
  • Being a 'Day One' performer.

Avoid starting by:

  • Constantly speaking about how you used to do it in your last job.
  • Criticizing your new, or former, employers or colleagues.
  • Encouraging stories about your predecessor.

Plunge in with vision...

Before you become an entrepreneur to execute your business idea, consider how you can fit into the market
Are you decisive? Do you have a strong desire to succeed? Are you ambitious? Are you very hardworking? Do you have strong motivation to move yourself forward every day? Do you want to make a difference in your life and leave a legacy?
If you have answered yes to the above, you may want to consider becoming an entrepreneur. Of course, you must have a vision or dream of what you want to achieve and make it a reality.
Before you quit your job to become your own boss, you need to find your own market space. The following points can help you in your process.
Decide on your goals
What are the goals for your business? You need to set realistic goals, not goals that are beyond your reach. What do you want the results to be? How many hours do you want to work? How many employees do you want to have? What do you want in your employees? How much sales do you want to make? What will be the acceptable profit margin?
The idea is to get a clear vision, or a big picture, for the business. Once you decide how it will look like when it is established, you will know what needs to be done to get you going.
Conduct market research
Spend some time to determine how much you will be able to charge for your product or service, and what kind of volume you will be able to sell within a time period. Think about the amount of effort you are willing to put in in a day so you can get a rough idea of the amount you can make.
Once you have these estimates, you can then decide if the money you can make or the time you need to put in are worth the effort. There are some people who spend many years working in a business that is just not capable of becoming what they had initially hoped for, and they end up becoming a slave to their business.
Many entrepreneurs think that success is all about developing a great product or service, but it also means being able to market and sell it well.
Before you spend a lot of time and money developing or perfecting your product, try to make a prototype or develop a clear and concise description of what it will be like, and do some market research. Determine who your prospective customers will be and take the opportunity to talk to them. Ask them as many questions as you can. Find out the price they are willing to pay. Consider this feedback and modify your product design accordingly, if necessary.
Next, try to look at other market players that are selling similar products or services. Find out what they charge, how they market and sell their products or services, and what their competitive advantage is. Find out what they are doing as well as why and how customers respond to their product.
Once you think you have a clear understanding of what the market really wants, you can then move ahead with your product or develop your service.
Starting the business
When you begin your business, work from home for a while if possible or rent the minimum amount of space and equipment necessary. It is very important to keep your overhead costs as low as possible, at least till things start to take off.
You need to resist the temptation to rent a nice office and fill it with nice furniture, carpet and equipment. Though impressive, it will be a large outlay for an entrepreneur who is just starting out.
From the start, it is critical that you communicate a consistent message to all potential customers. Start with the following:
Business cards: Get plenty and hand them out at every opportunity.
Website: This is to showcase your company’s range of products or services and to provide a downloadable brochure as well as useful information such as e-newsletters.
Marketing: Create a memorable theme that will stick in the minds of the customers.
Networking: Attend business and social activities to get your company’s name out in the industry.
Starting a new business is challenging and at times confusing. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the huge number of tasks you face every day.
Ask yourself: “What can I do to increase sales and market my product or service better today?” If you are thinking about this constantly, the other details will eventually fall into place.

2004 coming to a close...but still not much improvement...

yeah tt's right... yr 2004 is coming to a close but i'll still no different as compare to last yr. Still working for people although lately been quite rough ride trying to find myself a new challenge in life hoping that i would be able to enjoy every single moment of my life more meaningfully and satisfactorily but all in vain. In Anthony Robbins - Awaken the GIANT Within, i read through this book before. In it, mostly all postive and motivational quotes from famous people which is meant to giv us a "push" in our current state of life so that we could "pull" something dramatically and quickly to "change" the way we live our life. Many claims that they have read the book and it turns out to be very effective and useful especially the kind of impact it provides to throttle our life. But as for me, after reading it for the 2nd times, i still feel the same although do have some positive feeling while reading it but all these went off the moment i stopped reading it. Why? It's the book isn't good enough or i'm just too weak to be trained as a great positive thinker and executor? Am i lack of the capability to further excel or i'm just holding myself back because of the risks involved? What kind of risks are we talking here? Risks of being killed...No i don't think so... i tink it's more like personal risk... scared to fail, lack of self-motivation, self-confident, self-disciplined, and the lists will go on n on... neverending same goes for this! What am i trying to achieve all these years? What am i looking for? What's the catch? What's the hunt? Couldn't believe after so many years of hard and solid self-disciplined and motivational training i imposed on myself, and here i'm now writing abt all these which i should have mastered them long time ago. What's wrong wt me? Am i'm going crazy? Afraid not, i'm just being and feeling too insecured in this world, need to find a quick, positive and effective solutions else all my years of hardwork will goes down the drain... wouldn't want that to happen... how i wish i could be given another chance?... oh god... confused and frustrated life!

WHO IS IN CHARGE?

The organs of the body were having a meeting, trying to decide who was in charge.

Each organ took a turn to speak up:

Brain : I should be in charge because I run all body functions.

Blood: I should be in charge because I circulate oxygen for the brain.

Stomach: I should be in charge because I process food to the brain.

Legs: I should be in charge because I take the brain where it wants to go.

Eyes: I should be in charge because I let the brain see where it's going.

Asshole: I should be in charge because I get rid of your waste.

All the other parts laughed so hard and this made the asshole very mad.

To prove his point, the asshole immediately slammed tightly closed and stayed that way for 6 days, refusing to rid the body of any waste whatsoever.

Day 1 - Brain got a terrible headache and cried out for relief.

Day 2 - Stomach got bloated and began to ache terribly.

Day 3 - Legs got cramps and became unstable.

Day 4 - Eyes became watery and vision became blurred.

Day 5 - Blood became toxic and poisoned the body.

Day 6 -The other organs agreed to let the asshole be in charge.

Moral of the story: No matter who you are, or how important you think you are, you will find that it is always the ASSHOLE that is in charge.

P.S. So, dun forward to your boss!

Creating a new theory is not like destroying an old barn and erecting a skyscraper in its place. It is rather like climbing a mountain, gaining new and wider views, and discovering unexpected connections between our starting point and its rich environment.

Why love is blind

A LONG time ago, before the world was created and humans could set foot on it, virtues and vices floated around, not quite knowing what to do. One day, all of them were gathered together, and feeling more bored than ever.

Suddenly, Ingenious came up with an idea: “Let’s play hide-and-seek!” Everyone liked the idea and immediately, Madness shouted: “I want to count, I want to count!”

Since nobody was crazy enough to want to seek Madness, all the others agreed. Madness leaned against a tree and started counting, “One, two, three ...”

As Madness counted, the vices and virtues ran off to look for places in which to hide.

Tenderness hung itself on the horn of the moon, while Treason hid in a pile of garbage.

Fondness curled up between the clouds and Passion went to the centre of the earth.

Lie said that it would hide under a stone, but hid at the bottom of the lake instead, whilst Avarice entered a sack that he ended up breaking.

Madness continued to shout out: “... 79, 80, 81...” By then, all the vices and virtues were well hidden, except for Love. Fickle as Love is, he could not decide where to hide. And this should not surprise us, because we all know how difficult it is to hide Love.

Madness counted, “... 95, 96, 97 ...”

Just when he got to 100, Love jumped into a rose bush. Madness turned around and shouted: “I’m coming, I’m coming!”

Laziness was the first to be found, because he did not have the energy to hide. Then Madness spotted Tenderness in the horn of the moon, Lie at the bottom of the lake, and Passion at the centre of the earth.

One by one, Madness found them all, except for Love. He was getting desperate. Envious of Love, Envy whispered to Madness, “He is in the rose bush.”

Madness grabbed a wooden pitch fork and stabbed wildly at the bush. He jabbed and stabbed until a heartbreaking cry made him stop.

Love appeared from the bush, with both hands covering his face. Blood oozed from his eyes and trickled down his fingers. Madness had stabbed out Love’s eyes with his pitch fork.

“What have I done? What have I done?” Madness screamed. “I have blinded you! How can I repair the damage?”

Love answered: “You cannot repair my eyes. But if you really want to do something for me, you can be my guide.”

And so it came about that from that day on, Love is blind and is always accompanied by Madness.

Effective Networking

Talking abt networking most of us will usually shun away whenever they heard the word "networking" coz to them making network wt ppl means gettin themselves into some sort of trouble either involving in helping others to achieve their objective or become a victim of some direct sales or marketing. Therefore it's time for me to share with you an article from JobsDB.com titled "Effective Networking":

The word “Networking” is one that strikes terror not only into the hearts of jobseekers but also entrepreneurs. It conjures up images of wandering round a function room trying to offload your business card to as many people as you can. We usually hate the idea of networking because we think it makes us look pushy, false or just plain desperate. However, networking when done properly is one of the most important elements of any effective job search strategy. Consider the facts that almost 80% of jobs are never advertised, and around 60% of executive vacancies are filled through networking. It is a job-search strategy that works.

Some rules for effective Networking
* Share and share alike - Think of networking as being about gathering and sharing ideas – see yourself as a knowledge resource: the more people you meet, the more information you will have that you can pass around. Make yourself a useful contact to other people. Be prepared to share your information and contacts in return.

* Who do you network with? - Start with people that you know. Not only is it less daunting, but it is time effective to build on your existing network rather than try to create a completely new one from scratch. If you think you do not know anybody? What about getting help from the people you currently work with or have worked with. Think about the people you socialize with and their girlfriends/partners/parents/friends. If everyone you know in turn knows just another 10 people, it is not hard to see how you potentially have access to hundreds even thousands of people.

* Do not ask for a job - The most important thing to remember is that networking is NOT about asking people for a job. It is about asking people for information, advice or assistance. It is as much about asking what you can do for them as what they can do for you.

* Identify New Avenues to Pursue - Do try to expand your network to include people whom you would not ordinarily come into contact with, perhaps from professions, cultures or backgrounds very different from your own. This is a great way of broadening your horizons and helping yourself to think creatively and more imaginatively about your career options.

* Be clear on what you want to achieve - Remember, you are NOT asking your contacts for a job. You might want to ask them for ideas about career opportunities you have not thought of, more information about options that you are already considering, or advice on your CV. Do remember also, to ask every contact if they can in turn put you in touch with two or more further contacts and in this way, you can grow your network.

* Do research beforehand - Make sure you know as much as possible about the person you are meeting with, and how they may be able to help you. Keep your discussion focused, and not just a pleasant but ineffectual chat. People will be further impressed if you are well-prepared. If you are not, they may feel you are wasting their time as well as your own.

* Meet your contacts face-to-face – It is much easier to strike up a rapport. It is usually much more memorable to them, and they will probably give you far more information than they would have done in a telephone call or an email. But only ask for 15 minutes of their time as most people are too busy to give up a 1-hour slot. Chances are that if they agree to 15 minutes, you will get the best part of half-an-hour.

* Follow-up - Follow up all the leads you receive, even if they do not look too promising in the first instance. You can never tell how useful someone might be until you speak to them. Nor who they in turn might be able to put you in touch with. Furthermore, if someone has gone to the trouble of giving you a lead or a contact, it is simply rude not to follow up with it. Make sure also, that you write or at least email to thank the person who has given some of their time to you.

* Set yourself some targets – Do not set yourself a target that is unachievable, and do not confuse quantity with quality. Make sure you give yourself time to prepare properly before you chat with someone, and follow up properly afterwards. For example, aim to contact roughly 3 new people every week.

* Keep good records of all contacts - Keep notes about whom and what you talked about by putting in place a good record-keeping system right from the start. Do not think that you will be able to remember all this information.

* Be patient - Finally, remember that networking is a long-term strategy, not a short-term fix. Do not get frustrated if the first person you talk to does not offer you a job on the spot. Put more time and effort into building up, and nurturing your network and it will pay dividends throughout your career.

the POWER of WHY... for example...

Ultimately, it is your brand story that helps you answer that most fundamental of

all questions, “Why?"

Why do you decide to make one decision and not another? Why do your customers need

you? Why is it that you're better able to meet their needs than anyone else? Why

does your logo look this way? Why do your press releases read the way they do? And

most important to marketers and managers alike: why would someone make that critical

decision to use your products and services over those of anyone else?

ever tot wat's blogging....

Blogging Is...

1)A form of unedited, authentic self-expression

2)An instant publishing tool

3)An online journal with freshly updated content

4)Amateur journalism

5)Something that will revolutionize the Web (think RSS feeds)

6)A way to create community with your voters, er... readers (think 2,200 comments posted to the Dean for America blog in one day)

7)An alternative to mainstream media (think InstaPundit by Glenn Reynolds and TalkingPointsMemo by Joshua Micah Marshall)

8)A tool to teach students how to write

9)A new way to communicate with customers (think Ray Ozzie, CEO of Groove Networks)

10)A new form of knowledge management inside big companies

11)A way for a bunch of navel-gazers to communicate with one another

12)Something to keep you occupied when you’re unemployed (more people than care to admit fit into this category… have you noticed?)

13)A way to think and write in short paragraphs instead of a long essay (which no one has time to read anyway)

14)Your email to everyone, as A-list blogger Doc Searls puts it (i.e., a way to stay in touch with family and friends)

15)A silly word that’s fun to say (“Gotta go blog now….”)

16)A way of writing with a distinct voice and personality (think Halley Suitt)

17)Something to talk about at cocktail parties (“I blogged Seth Godin and he blogged me back...”)

18)A URL to add to your resume (as in TokyoTim, my 23-year-old son, who’s working as an English teacher in Japan for a year)

19)Something else to do with your mobile phone... think audio blogging and moblogging

20)Something you don’t want your mother to read: what my mother says about blogging

dEsIrEd SKILLs...

Analysis: The ability to integrate disparate quantitative, qualitative and anecdotal data about market dynamics into an integrated framework of both the current marketplace and reasonable forecasted scenarios for future developments of that marketplace.

Learning: The ability and willingness to learn rapidly to see and appropriately react to real shifts in the changing marketplace—not false signals. In a parallel way, the ability to learn and appropriately apply new marketing best practices. In both situations, an ability to understand and critically assess the situation at hand and to apply only those that are of important consequences vs. over reaction is required.

Communication: The ability to develop an engaging and easily understood translation of that marketplace to each business function through their own unique perspective of thinking about the market. Think about the communication challenge in a company to be the same as describing a house where everyone is looking in a different window. While it is the same house, each person sees it differently. The ability to effectively translate for each function greatly improves the strength of understanding and acceptance by all stakeholders.

Leadership: The ability to build trust and credibility with leadership across all other business functions that allows this market view to be accepted and therefore reflected in all of their decisions/plans. Given that this almost always include some level of ambiguity, a high level of trust and credibility is necessary to get others to follow through the ambiguous gaps. In the absence of this trust, internal debates can often bog down or diffuse actions to the point where nothing happens.

tips of the DAY...

Your age is not an issue if you are confident, competent, diplomatic, and willing to put yourself out there. You may have to put issues of ego aside if you find a company you want to work for—they may want you at a lower level. As long as you can grow and it’s in a good environment this may be a good deal.

The Curse of Choice...

As the Merovingian says in the movie Matrix Reloaded, “Choice is an illusion, created between those with power, and those without... Our only hope, our only peace is to understand it, to understand the ‘why.’ ‘Why’ [Read the ‘Power of Why’] is what separates us from them, you from me. ‘Why’ is the only real social power, without it you are powerless.”

yum.. yum... yum... MOONCAKES!!!

yeah, it's lunch time now... couldn't stop myself from thinking of those tasty mooncakes which i desperately seeking to satisfy my tastebud... had meehoon and yam kuey... not as satsifying as those mooncakes i've been feasting on myself for the past 2wks. my mooncake stock is almost finished and it's time for me to replenish them once again before next wk 28th which will be the offical date for the "Mooncake Festival"! i love all the choices of mooncakes as long as they r good in quality and worth the money. wow, couldn't believe it initially tt mooncakes r actually so damn expensive esp when u r payin ard rm15-20 for such a small size which i could easily wallop the whole piece in 2-3 bites. ehehehehehe.... nway, as i've mentioned, good and quality mooncakes deserved tt kind of price tag but if they r too pricey, i tink a bowl of "segambut" laksa either at taipan or pj area will definitely satisfy me much more.... ehehehehehehe.... ;)

something interesting to share..."Boss or Leader"

The Boss drives his workers: The Leader coaches them.

The Boss depends on Authority: The Leader on Goodwill.

The Boss says “I”; The Leader says “We.”

The Boss rules by Fear; The Leader inspires by Enthusiasm.

The Boss says “Get here on time;” The Leader gets there ahead of time.

The Boss fixes blame for the breakdown; The Leader fixes the breakdown.

The Boss Knows how it’s done; The Leader Shows how it’s done.

The Boss makes work drudgery; the leader makes it Fun.

The Boss says “GO;” the Leader says, “Let’s Go together.”

The Real Leader never Bosses: She sells instead of tells. She knows that people need to want to do things and—where possible—be included in decisions.

bad luck OR good luck...

haven't been blogging lately... wasn't tt busy but lazy i guess... furthermore, there wasn't much to talk abt till recently. just 2 days ago, i had an accident which resulted in a flat tyre near taipan area. couldn't proceed further and have no choice but to change it immediately. that day was the worst kind of sunday i would have imagined... changing my flat tyre under the hot sun and was my 1st time doing it. good thing was i able to stay calm and didn't get too panicked with the situation but i did called gav just to drop by and help me out. the whole process went off smoothly although i sweat relentlessly under that noon sun. peak time! ehehehehe... at the end of it, i found tt changing tyre wasn't as difficult as i thought. as a matter of fact, it's pretty easy as long as you stay calm and have everything by ur side, it shouldn't cause much of hassle. then, supposed to meet up wt the geng after my morning appt but i cancelled it coz was just too tired. the moment i reached home, i head straight to my bed and sleep for the whole afternoon. didn't want to think of anything else but too get my rest and try to forget abt my bad day! after i woke up, i realized how bad i treated my new car with scratches on its back bumper, right rear passenger door, and little tiny scratches all over the body if pay a close attention to them. and now a flat tyre to add-on to all the existing ordeal... oh car...oh car.. i'm really sorry for not treating you well... it's just past 8 mths and my car alredi looks like a 2-yr old car. sigh, all these was due to my impatient and some bad lucks i had for the past 8 mths. wouldn't wan to say much but will put more effort to treat my car better and try to fix all the existing prob ASAP so tt it could be back as new ;)

Defining your GOALS...

Defining your goals is not an easy task especially when there are so many things in your life that needs your attention. Here's one way of doing it RIGHT!

How to do it...

Make sure that the goals/objectives you set are "SMART" - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time Bound

->Specific: Relate to a single desired result. Do not have several objectives incorporated into one. Make sure you fully understand them.

->Measurable: Specify how you will measure if you have achieved your goal.

->Achievable: Objectives must be achievable with the resources available to you and within your capabilities.

->Relevant: In this case you must assess that the objective is relevant to your overall career or life plan.

->Time Bound: Objectives need actions to be achieved by a specified date. They should also be undertaken at the right time, i.e. When completion of the objective is possible.

Rank how important the goal is to you and then...

Rank how easy it is to achieve the goal...

Finally, take ACTION on the GOAL! Have a nice day and a great weekend ahead! ;)

“Plan a career within a life – not a life within a career”

Your career is like a journey. When you look over your shoulder you can see where you have been. However, where you are going may be less clear or well defined! Your future’s in front of you, and your success and happiness will be strongly influenced by the quality of the career decisions you make.

Making the right decision is never easy. However, if you understand who you are and what you want, you have a greater chance of fulfilment – a better chance of achieving the goals that are important to you.
