It’s just like any other fine Saturday except it’s my 2nd non-working Saturday after some time. Apart from that I went for a small surgery (Sebaceous Gland). It was my 1st time I’m doing a surgery. You know going through the procedures. It’s really an eye-opener for me. The need to put on the sexy piece of cloth (not too comfortable but after sometime I just got used to it), lying on top of a hospital bed waiting eagerly for my turn to be sliced open to remove the piece of meat, being push on the wheelchair barefooted to the surgery room and then transferred to a movable bed and covered with blanket in full except my head (lying there stationary for sometime like a piece of wood until I asked them what I was waiting and they told me waiting for the surgeon). The part which I’m not too used to is surrounded by nurses and people pushing me here and there. Hmmmm… not saying I’m enjoying the process but I feel weird and uncomfortable and at many times I asked whether I can walk on my own or not but the nurses said it’s part of the hospital procedures and I guess it applies everywhere else. Finally, I get my chance to enter the surgery room or operation theatre. By the way, did I mention that my surgery initially supposed to be scheduled at 8:30AM but was delayed till around 11 AM because there was an emergency case whereby a mum need to do a caesarian delivery. Hence I just waited for my turn lo. Anyway, back to the surgery room, again I was surrounded by even more people and equipments and was again transferred from the movable bed to the surgery bed. All in all, I think I was transferred 3-4 times from my hospital bed to the surgery bed. Hmmm… Prior to the surgery, they (the nurses – 2 men and 4 woman) were deciding how they should positioned me caused the Sebaceous Gland growth is on the left top corner of my back. After a few tries, they finally decided to put me face-down so that I’m much comfortable that way. Then they tied my left leg against the bed. Not sure what’s that for. Maybe they worry in the middle of the surgery due to the pain, I may kick someone. Muahahaha… perhaps so:P After all the setups and this and that, finally the surgeon came in. He joke a little and ensure that this will be quick and I should not feel much pain and told me to let him know if I feels any pain during the surgery. Then, my left index finger was fixed to a detector which connects to a heart beat machine and I can hear my the machine beating sound pretty loudly… beep…beep…beep… (This reminds me of the many episodes in Grey’s Anatomy and how an operation theatre looks and feels like although those in the series look much more complicated with many more things and the watch tower). Then a nurse tried to inject antibiotic into my right hand while I gripped my palm to allow her to find my vein. I thought it won’t be that difficult for her to find it but somehow she try and try and poke deeper n deeper and finally she managed to reach the vein. While this is happening, the surgeon was injecting a few injections around the around of the growth. I felt like I was being bitten by a few mosquitoes or rather the pain is slightly more than that. The whole surgery took around 30-45minutes. Lucky for me, I didn’t feel any pain while the surgeon removed the growth apart from feeling as though there is something touching my back. After removal of the growth, he showed it to me… I can’t believe that that little piece of skin/growth/sebaceous gland is as big as a cashew nut. Because there are some tissues in it, they will need to send to the lab to further experiment it for any further complications or infections or such. Then I was transferred a few times again till I finally reached the hospital bed. After rested on my bed, was warned by the nurse not to got the washroom or avoid any movements for the 1st 30mins or so caused I may feel dizzy and when the anesthetic is gone, I may start to feel more pain. Luckily, I didn’t feel any of those and after resting for another 2hrs or so, I finally discharged myself. All in all, this is really something new to me and I hope not to experience it again. Was on my home bed for the rest of the day… what a Saturday! Glad everything went on smoothly and able to go back home safely! :)
P/s: I’m much more blessed and what I’ve gone through is nothing at all if was to compare to what the victims at China and Myanmar have to brave through. I’ll pray for them and hope things will be better soon…
Happy Wesak Day to All of you and May you be blessed always!
